Most people/animals have a tendency to shy away from something which harms them - instinct.
Jeanette embraces fire instead of fearing it. I'm not entirely sure why - it's probably not the smartest idea, but it doesn't work against her in this case. I do respect her for not backing away from it.
Maturity.
While a lot of people would argue that Jeannette didn't have a 'childhood' (and maybe it wasn't the best childhood), her mature way of handling things when faced with situations is quite enviable.
Optimism.
' "Do you like always moving around?' Lori asked me.
"Of course I do!" I said. "Don't you?"
"Sure," she said. '
Jeannette stays optimistic even in the seemingly worst situations. Where many others would give up hope, and where her family does give up hope, Jeanette sees things in their best light.
